I have heard this from many patients. So many people are being told how “bad” their x-rays look by medical providers. Interestingly there is evidence even talking about or showing a patient their x-ray makes them more likely to have a knee replacement.

Your Pain Often Isn’t Where Your Problem Is Part 2
When we are treating someone experiencing pain, it’s crucial to know two things. The first is to have an idea of what hurts. You don’t have to be exact, in fact therapists are known to be terrible at identifying the structure causing back pain, for example. You just need to have a general “working diagnosis” of what is going on. If a problem in the leg is coming from the back you need to know that much, as discussed in our last post, here.
Your Pain Often Isn’t Where Your Problem Is
One error I see all the time when patients or therapists aren’t having success in treatment is that they “treat the pain” as in, they focus on the part of the body that hurts. Most of the time when you hear or feel a click it is related to this disc. A good rule of thumb is … Continue reading What is that Clicking in my Jaw?
Treating Our Joints Efficiently
One place we want to be efficient and not just normal is when it comes to the function of our joints. As we age we lose the range of motion of our joints. This is accelerated by injury or by misuse/disuse. If this isn’t restored it can cause problems that are lifelong. Now let’s take … Continue reading Treating Our Joints Efficiently
Efficiency VS. Norms
Before I dive in I want to say that I owe a lot when it comes to this topic to my study with The Institute of Physical Art. I first heard this idea and these concepts in their classes so a lot of the credit for this idea goes to them. Something important to think … Continue reading Efficiency VS. Norms
